Nick's Story
Mountain Rescue and Mental Health Consultant
Nick Armitage has dedicated 30 years to emergency services, working across wildland fire, mountain rescue, law enforcement, and emergency medicine. His career began in 1995 as a wildland firefighter where he spent a decade on the fireline serving as both a hotshot crew member and smokejumper, later becoming climbing ranger and law enforcement officer, leading complex rescues in alpine terrain.

With 20 years in search and rescue and 10 years in ski patrol and avalanche forecasting, Nick blends technical mountain expertise with a deep understanding of operational safety and human performance. An EMT since 2002 and Advanced Life Support (AEMT) provider since 2011, he has extensive experience delivering medical care in the front country and remote, high-stress environments.

For the past decade, Nick has focused on first responder mental health, applying 13 years of Critical Incident Stress Management and 8 years of peer support experience to help teams build resilience, recover from trauma, and sustain well-being in demanding operational settings.
